Obama proudly meddles in Hungarian domestic politics again

Today’s news is that President Obama said at the Israeli Embassy in Washington DC that

when a statue of an anti-Semitic leader from World War II was planned in Hungary, we led the charge to convince their government to reverse course.  This was not a side note to our relations with Hungary, this was central to maintaining a good relationship with the United States, and we let them know.

Yes, the president of mighty 320 million-strong superpower USA has boasted that he personally arm-twisted the prime minister of a small 10 million-strong Central European country so that a rural Hungarian city of 100,000 people shouldn’t erect a statue for a most eminent Hungarian historian and numismatics expert who was also a minister during WWII and who co-signed some anti-Jewish document with other legislators.  No, the statue wasn’t a Hungarian government project but it was Prime Minister Viktor Orbán whom President Obama proudly arm-twisted so that he should pressurize the self-government of Székesfehérvár in order to cancel the plans for the statue.  Yes, Obama has won.

David Irving at the helm of the FBI

FBI Director  James Comey wrote in the Washington Times last Thursday: “In their minds, the murderers and accomplices of Germany, and Poland, and Hungary, and so many, many other places didn’t do something evil.”
Both Poland and Hungary have protested on diplomatic channels.
I found an excellent Polish response from Agaton Koziński
Today one does not even try to deny the fact in general public discourse that the Holocaust took place. However the lie, the very same lie for which [Holocaust denier British historian] David Irving went to jail, still resurfaces.   It does only in a slightly modified form. Now, in accordance with  modern trends, it’s proclaimed in order to relativize this singular event.  The lie takes the form of arguing that it’s not only Germany which is responsible for the murder of Jews but other nations are, too.   Mostly Poles, but also Hungarians, Latvians and Ukrainians. This transfer of responsibility to others is a way to justify that the Germans just went with the European trends of the 1930’s. But that’s a lie. Germans stoked anti-Semitism in Europe to the level of a genocide.  It’s frightening that you have to fight for such an obvious truth .
I don’t speak Polish and I hope I managed to clean up the Google-translated text properly.
All I could add that we can see these attempt to transfer responsibility in Hungary, too.  See, for example, the hysteria about the memorial to all victims of World War Two.

Political cowardice or wisdom?

The new monument dedicated to the memory of all victims of Hungary’s occupation by Nazi Germany in 1944, next to the Soviet monument in front of the US embassy which commemorates Hungary’s Soviet occupation in 1945 was yesterday finished… There has been an ongoing hysteria campaign against it for months, with global media support, and its completion (originally scheduled on March the 19th, the day of the Nazi occupation)  has been delayed several times.  Today the government has announced that ,with regard to the ongoing postcommunist (“left liberal”)/Jewish hysteria campaign, the monument will not be unveiled.   The  scum, a few dozen activists of MSZP, Bajnai’s and Gyurcsány‘s parties and some “independent” Holocaust-industry workers, which gathered yesterday to demonstrate against the monument threw eggs and yoghurt at the monument.

I understand the government wants to avoid unnecessary confrontations but   I’m deeply disappointed. This bad  compromise shouldn’t have been made.  The government shouldn’t have given in to these bullies.    They should have called for people’s support. I’m pretty sure a 100+ thousand strong crowd would have gathered easily even in this unbearably hot weather to unveil the monument. (It’s over 30 C here now).

‘Roma crime’ is the left-lib parlance for Jobbik-phrase ‘Gypsy crime’

Perhaps I don’t need to introduce Ferenc Gyurcsány, the prime minister of the postcommunist-leftlib MSZPSZDSZ coalition between 2004 and 2009.  You know the one who admitted to his comrades-in-sin behind closed doors in 2006 that MSZP-SZDSZ “lied  night and day and did nothing” (with the active help of the European Commission) in order to win the elections. When they did win and Gyurcsány’s secret obscene speech was leaked, huge crows protested for his resignation and new elections.  Instead of that Gyurcsány had the police shoot protestors in the eye, beat many people to half-dead … while those very human pressure groups of some particular rights (Amnesty International, TASZ, Helsinki Committee, etc. ) kept a low profile. Oh, well,  then Hungary was a democracy which Freedom House ranked higher than today’s Hungary when it’s the left-lib protesters who beat up each other and the police only investigates…  Here is the story:

Albert Pásztor, the police chief of Miskolc in 2009,  held a press conference on the 30th of January, 2009.  Miskolc is an industrial city in Northern Hungary, where Gypsies constitute a high proportion of the population, and crime rates are much higher than elsewhere. Pásztor said in the press conference that a particular kind of street mugging is committed by Gypsies only and he added “cohabitation is not possible with our minority citizens. Yes, that’s it.”     Gyurcsány, who was still PM at that time,  rushed to hold a press conference and he theatrically announced he had ordered the police minister to fire Pásztor for his “racist hate speech”.   There was a local demonstration in Miskolc for Pásztor… with the participation  the local (Miskolc)  MSZP organization, that is Gyurcsány’s party then.

Jobbik was rising strongly and steadily in the beginning of 2009 and one of their main slogans was “combatting ‘cigánybűnözés’ (Gypsy-crime).   “No state employee is allowed to speak of ‘cigánybűnözés'”, Gyurcsány roared in February, 2009 on his press conference.   His exact words were: “this is not simply outrageous. This is sickening.”  He was forced to resign two months later and his economic minister Gordon Bajnai was made PM.

Fidesz won their first landslide victory a year later.  Gyurcsány left MSZP soon, after a lot of bickering, and he established his own party called “Democratic Coalition“.  (They are democratic because they call themselves “democrats” in each second sentence they utter and they call the right wing dictatoric, Fascist, anti-Semitic, racist and what-have-you.)  The major political theme of Gyurcsány’s “left-liberal” party is  anti-racism, fighting for LBGT and  Roma rights, etc.
Fidesz made the penal laws stricter after 2010 and they reinforced the police, too.  They also introduced “public work” for the poor and unskilled, that is basically people are made to work for their benefits, but crime is still a problem in a lot of places, including Miskolc.  Yes, poor, unskilled Gypsies, a lot of them living in slums, commit a lot of crime in Miskolc.

Now, after the second landslide victory of Fidesz in the general elections and before the local elections due to be held in October,  MSZP and Gyurcsány’s party nominated the very same ex-policeman for Miskolc’s mayor whom they fired so theatrically in 2009.

Amnesty International, TASZ, Helsinki Committee, etc.  keep a low profile about this move…

Today, five years later, these are Gyurcsány’s words about Pásztor: “I see the whole of the man rather than those particular words of his.”   Moreover the vice president of Gyurcsány’s small extremist “left-lib” party, Mátyás Eörsi was talking about “Roma-crime” (romabűnözés) last week in an interview on the left-liberal TV channel ATV.    This former SZDSZ politician has always been… er, very, very vocal about racism like discrimination against the Roma… Though, to tell the truth, his real speciality is accusing people of anti-Semitism… (he’s  Jewish)

The local organization of ex-MSZP PM Bajnai’s Együtt-PM, another splinter party of MSZP founded after 2010, also supported running Pásztor for Miskolc mayor. However the national leadership did not.  Márton Gulyás, the NGO leader who recently blurted out that George Soros is financing anti-government political demonstrations via the so-called “Norwegian Civil Fund”, is closely related to Együtt-PM.   He turned up at Gyurcsány’s political rally on Saturday (advertised as “The day of resistance” ) and he held a sign protesting Pásztor’s mayor candidacy and the phrase “Roma crime”.   Gyurcsány’s fans promptly destroyed his sign and they also beat him during the speech of Ágnes Kunhalmi, who is .. surprise, surprise… the Budapest leader of MSZP, that is Gyurcsány’s ex-party.  Later Gyurcsány’s democrats threw burning cigarette stubs at Gulyás.

Tonight Gyurcsány’s “Demokratikus Koalíció” made a press release demanding to know if “Gulyás’ provocation occured in his capacity as a civil political activist or if he acted as an employee of Együtt-PM, with the full knowledge of his party leadership”.

A cup of nice coffee for me, please. 🙂

PS: I expect to see this story in the Western media under titles like “Fascist demonstrators attack human rights activist in Hungary” 😀

Epic fail

Hungary’s conservative government dared to launch an investigation into the matters of the so-called “Norvég Civil Alap” (Norway Civic Fund).  As it turned out last year, really the network is operated by the neoliberal Jewish American billionaire, stock exchange shark and CIA-smelling, colour revolution supporter George Soros  who is the money distributor and manager of this Norwegian state organization.   Soros heavily funds the postcommunist opposition, such as ex-Socialist PM Bajnai’s “Haza és Haladás” foundation, and most importantly he supports everything socially subversive:  militant homosexual activists, drug addicts, militant pro-abortion groups, a “trade union”  of prostitutes, militant “Roma rights” groups,   “human rights” groups … but of the right kind only.  For example, they turned down supporting the  Baptist Humanitarian Aid Mission  because, according to them, “it doesn’t comply with the modern approach to human rights”.

Today’s news is that now even Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Thomas O. Melia,  the former Deputy Executive Director of Freedom House , got involved…  Yes,  it smells CIA.

English: Bajnai has met George Soros in New York

Gordon Bajnai meeting George Soros in New York (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

The board of the allegedly non-political money-distributing NGO consists of persons closely related to the “left-liberal” political forces Mr. Soros is so fond of. According to Roger Scruton, the famous British conservative political thinker, the Soros-network is behind the bad reputation Hungary has in the global media and they spread the image of “Hungary’s becoming a Fascist dictatorship“:

It’s not persecution complex to speak about conspiracy against Hungary. As far as I can see from England, there is such a conspiracy indeed. There are quite a few people who feature Hungary as ‘a Fascistic   dictatorship’ in the international media all the time . Universities, especially expensive American ones, generally can be characterized by left-wing bias. These give fellowships to people, who are often very intelligent and interesting people, who come from the circles of Miklós Haraszti and János Kis (prominent ex SZDSZ leaders). Then they use their privileges in the Western world to be “opposition beyond the borders”. I think that’s illegitimate political power.

Now these so-called NGOs , with Soros in the background,  cry rivers about “checks and balances”, “civic society building”, “human rights” and “the rule of law” …. and then they are trying not to reveal the documents the government is entitled to ask from any NGO registered in Hungary.   They insist they are “civic organizations” and the Hungarian state should have nothing to do with the money which was flowing from Norway .  On the other hand the government says  that in fact this is direct foreign meddling in Hungary’s internal politics.   Both  Norway  and Hungary   have already summoned their ambassadors regarding this on-going political row.

Márton Gulyás, a manager of one of these  NGOs in question is breezily whining in this video how KEHI (Governmental Auditor Office) cannot demand internal documents from them (concerning who decided, and how, which organizations were given money and which were not). The interview was made by the left-liberal ATV TV channel but even Olga Kálmán, an  infamously partisan left-liberal reporter  was astonished when Gulyás blurted out that the “Norwegian Civic Fund” financed a recent left-liberal political demonstration against the government.

What an epic fail! 😀

Hungarian Holocaust today

It really reminds me of the events 70 years ago, the Holocaust, that police are removing Jews by force

said ex-MSZP minister Tamás Suchman, a vice-chairman of Mazsihisz (Alliance of Hungarian Jewish Faith Communes) yesterday.

A horrible scene from the new Holocaust happening in Hungary these days

After several weeks of watching idly that left-liberal/Jewish protesters dismantle the scaffolds of a construction site in the centre of Budapest each day,  yesterday the Hungarian police took action at last.   The newly re-elected Orbán government plans to erect a monument commemorating all victims of Hungary’s 1944 German occupation.  Note the keyword “all”.  It’s really time they made up their mind if  they want to be discriminated as Jews or not… Besides this word, another big problem the protesters have is that the monument uses  explicitly Christian symbolism (an angel)

The police officers called on the protesters to leave the site in Szabadság square and they cited the relevant sections of the law  and  a municipal decree issued on Monday to ensure protection to the construction site .  When  a group of 23 protesters refused to leave,  the police carried them out of the site one by one.  They were not arrested but they will have to appear in court.

Imre Mécs, a former liberal then Socialist lawmaker blamed the police for not refusing to take “a measure violating human rights”. He also insisted that “the police must not act against democracy” and he said that the protesters would appeal to the European Court of Justice.

Let us remember that he forgot to make such an appeal anywhere when  police thugs of his MSZP-SZDSZ (Socialist-left-liberal) government committed lots of atrocities against protesters in 2006 like this:

Note the illegal, and possibly lethal, expandable metal batons the police used in 2006

Today’s news is that Prime Minister Orbán has  answered an open letter concerning this new monument.  He wrote that Germany is responsible for the military occupation of Hungary and also for what happened after the 19th of March, 1944.  However the question of Hungary’s responsibility may be raised concerning that no resistence fight was started, Hungary did not stand up against the occupiers actively and there were too many collaborators.   “we have repented our sins, we have paid damages even though what happened cannot be undone.  On the other hand we cannot take responsibility for what is not due to us.  There wouldn’t have been deportations without the German occupation and no cattle wagons would have left Hungary (for Auswitz),  hundreds of thousands of lives wouldn’t have been lost.  It’s difficult to imagine there could be an honest, trustful co-existence in the future without seeing reason in these questions.”, PM Orbán added.

Update (concerning if Archangel Gabriel belongs to  Jewish or Christian symbolism):

Hősök tere-855

On the highest point of Heroes Square, Archangel Gabriel offers the Holy Crown of Hungary to God in founding king St. Stephen’s dream

New Fidesz supermajority is official

After a lot of re-counting and legal appeals by the postcommunist “Government Changers” (Kormányváltók) coalition, Hungary’s High Court (Kúria) has announced their sentence today: the distribution of MPs seats wouldn’t change.   Another Fidesz supermajority after four years in government sounds like a real political miracle.

I do worry about Fidesz though. As the saying goes, “Power corrupts; absolute power corrupts absolutely”.  All in all, I think Fidesz got away with relatively little corruption  in the last four years, given the power the Hungarian voters gave to Fidesz and PM Orbán in 2010.  I hope very much I could write the same in 2018…

The seats in the new Parliament

The “Government Changers”, in close cooperation with the global neoliberal media,  have been, and are, trying hard to question the legitimacy of the elections results. Well, that’s one could expect from the  Reding-strategy after all.   One of their major “argument” is that Fidesz got a 67% majority with “only” 45% of the votes and that’s sooooo unjust and it’s soooo dictatorial. They don’t have any answer to the fact, other than ignoring, that Fidesz would have won 95% of the seats under the election rules of the United Kingdom.   They keep whining about “gerrymandering by Fidesz”, “the lack of freedom of speech”, “an electoral system which makes Fidesz impossible to defeat”, etc.   Apparently MSZP chairman Attila Mesterházy didn’t think last December that the very same election rules would prevent them from obtaining a supermajority.    EU propaganda, or US mouthpieces like the Wall Street Journal,  focuses  on Jobbik, which got more votes than in 2010 but a smaller percentage of seats!,  instead of that why Fidesz had another landslide victory or  why their postcommie/left-liberal cronies suffered such a huge defeat again from the Hungarian voters…

Instead of trying to learn from the lessons the Hungarian electorate gave them, the postcommies  have been  playing the “anti-Semitic card” for months and they have been trying very hard, with a lot of help from the aforementioned global media,  to stir up more and more hysteria about a planned monument which will be dedicated to all victims of Hungary’s military occupation by Nazi Germany in 1944.   Maybe I’ll write a separate post about this.  In the meantime I highly recommend reading this (very instructive!) article how a descendant of Holocaust victims,  the leader of the leftist-green party LMP,  was be labelled  and attacked when he had opined in the same way as I wrote in the previous sentence.

And these “progressive, democratic forces who represent European values”, together with their foreign overlords in the EU and in the USA,  are apparently unwilling to face up reality: Hungary has had enough of “Kormányváltók”, that is the wreckage coalition of MSZP, its splinters like the small parties established by former Socialist prime ministers and the leftovers of the now defunct extremist “liberal” party SZDSZ.

Holocaust day

Oh, well, today it’s a Holocaust remembrance day.  There’s so much talk about this genocide  (see http://holocaustmemorialyear2014.gov.hu/ ) that actually I’m wondering which day isn’t a Holocaust remembrance day this year…

Politicians seems to compete hard who is capable of saying the most bizarre and bombastic thing.

Zoltán Pokorni, a Fidesz leader who belongs to the “liberal” wing of the centre-of-right party  Fidesz I support,  bent over backwards, too, to say something “big” and he managed to utter that

The Holocaust is our cause because the killers and the victims were Hungarians, too.

Using his logic, he might have said equally that “the Holocaust is our cause because the killers and the victims were Jews, too”.  (For the sake of this parallel logic argument let’s disregard for a moment that the killers were Germans.) But let’s analyze this sentence a bit more…

Everybody knows that the term “Holocaust” means a particular 20th century genocide committed by Nazi Germans against Jews in Europe.  So if the victims were Hungarians, and not Jews, then perhaps we shouldn’t talk about “Holocaust” at all, should we?

It’s a well-known historical fact that there were no death camps in Hungary. It’s also well-known that neither the Hungarian authorities or the Jewish victims themselves, including the members of the “Jewish Council”,  knew when the deportations  started, and one must stress that happened  only after Hungary’s occupation on the 19th of March, 1944 that the physical extermination of the deported ones was the  goal of the Nazi.

It’s really high time to stop trying to shift blame from Nazi Germany  to Hungary .  For the record,  the Holocaust was planned and carried out by Nazi Germany. Hungary did ally herself with Nazi Germany in the hopes of regaining the lost territories in the Dictat of Trianon, but in contrast with other countries allied with Nazi Germany,  the deportation of Jews from Hungary started only after Nazi Germany occupied Hungary militarily.  In fact it was the foot-dragging policies of Governor Horthy which made it possible to avoid Hungary’s military invasion by Nazi Germany already at the beginning of World War Two, that is several years earlier than the March of 1944.  That would have meant, of course, the complete annihilation of all Jews in Hungary, just like it happened in Poland.   After the Hungarian authorities learned what was happening in Auswitz  from the Auschwitz Protocols , Governor Horthy personally gave the order to stop the deportations on the 8th of July, 1944 and this order was carried out by Colonel Ferenc Koszorús and his brave  troops.  This event is commemorated on a plaque in Dohány utca in Budapest where you can visit the largest synagogue in Europe.

In memory of Col. Ferenc Koszorús and his brave soldiers who prevented the deportation of the Budapest Jewry on the 5th and 6th of July, 1944.

In fact the Jewry in Budapest, which is one of the largest in Europe, should be very thankful indeed to Governor Horthy.  Instead they keep besmirching him, and Hungarians, too, day and night.

Distorted

I’m kinda hardened by now when it comes to shameless anti-Hungarian propaganda lies spread in the Western press about Hungary but I still think it’s worth having a few words about this  abomination from Australia’s public broadcaster. It’s titled “Democracy distorted in Hungary”.

Of course they start off with a picture of  Hungarian Guard activists marching with torches.  Then the other picture show a Hungarian Guard march, too.  Fascist everywhere, even under your bed….  Of course there’s no mentioning of that the picture had to be taken before 2010, when the Fidesz-government came to power, and of course there’s no mentioning of the fact that the Hungarian Guard has been banned since then.

Then Australia’s public broadcaster provides its unsuspecting audience with such utter garbage:

Hungary has displayed the sort of public anti-Semitism that hasn’t been witnessed on the continent since the end of the Second World War.

So how many rabbis have been shot in Hungary recently?  And how many synagogues have been set on fire in Hungary recently?

Then you get the usual, oft-repeated  lunacy from  “Hungary specialist Kim Lane Scheppele”, an unscrupulous liar and sworn enemy of Fidesz and Orbán,  who is bitching about that Fidesz got a two-third supermajority with 53% of the cast votes in 2010.   As if the old election system hadn’t been like that since 1990 and MSZP-SZDSZ hadn’t got a supermajority with a similar share of the votes in 1994.  That wasn’t a “design defect”, as she put it then, was it?  Incidentally  under the the British first-past-the-pole election system Fidesz would have gotten 99.5% of the seats in 2010.

Isn’t “public service” supposed to mean striving for non-partisan factual reporting in Australia?

Hungary’s Example

A pleasant dissonance in the present wave of anti-Jewish discrimination in various parts of Central and Eastern Europe is the call issued yesterday by the Hungarian government party, inviting the Jews of Hungary to submit to the government any complaints which they may have.

How long is it since Hungary was listed among the anti-Semitic countries of Europe? How long since Hungary was the first country officially to introduce a numerus clausus for Jewish students? How long is it since Jew-baiting speeches were delivered from the platform of the Hungarian parliament by leading members of the Cabinet?

The Hungary of today is the first country in Europe with the courage to abandon official anti-Semitism after realizing that it is a menace to the nation. The call issued yesterday by the government party, inviting Jewish complaints, is only another proof that the present regime in Hungary does not regret the change in its policy with regard to the Jews. Could not Hungary’s experience serve as an example to other European nations?
